Pulpy Kidney Disease

This disease is part of the group of enterotoxemias, it is also classified as an enteric disease, caused by the epsilon toxin of Clostridium perfringens type D, popularly known as Pulpy Kidney Disease, due to the findings observed at necropsy. As far as we know, this disease has already been identified in goats in Brazil. Already worldwide, confirmed cases of the disease in cattle is still low and seems to affect mainly young cattle, however it is widely spread in sheep.
As mentioned in Enterotoxemia, contamination and symptoms are similar. Some factors, such as sudden changes in the diet of ruminants, worms and unvaccinated animals, contribute to the onset of the disease. The best form of care and prevention is herd vaccination.
